Pelican Bucket Wheel

EIW’s Pelican Bucket Wheel is a highly efficient system for dewatering sand slurries in dredging and other sand processing applications.

INTRODUCTION

What is a Pelican Bucket Wheel?

With the capability to handle high-water volumes and feed fluctuations common to dredging, the Pelican Bucket Wheel is a high-capacity, low-horsepower dewatering option. EIW’s Pelican Bucket Wheel also functions as a free-settling classifier, removing ultra-fine particles to achieve common hydraulic mesh splits.

How Pelican Bucket Wheels Work

Feed material enters the Pelican Bucket Wheel behind a baffle plate to minimize turbulence. The material settles into the bottom of the tub area, where it is then scooped up by a slowly rotating wheel composed of individual dewatering buckets. Each dewatering bucket is lined with media containing small openings for water and ultra fine solids to pass through; the water and ultra fine solids then drain back into the tub area via siphon tubes. Material retained on the media stays rotating in the dewatering bucket until it is discharged on the opposite side of the feed end. The resulting product is dewatered, conveyable and stackable, but further moisture removal can be achieved by adding an Eagle+ Dewatering Screen after the Pelican Bucket Wheel. For optimal operation, a screening device for removing oversize, such as an Eagle+ Horizontal Screen, should precede the Pelican Bucket Wheel.
