Washing & Classifying

Washing and classifying is the process of removing silts, fines, clays, slimes, crusher dust, stains, coatings and other deleterious materials from sand and aggregate products to meet construction specifications.

INTRODUCTION

Why Washing & Classifying?

Aggregate products, such as sand and gravel, are mined from the earth or dredged from lakes and rivers. These raw materials often contain contaminants such as clays, silts, slimes, stains, coatings, crusher dust and fine material that can be harmful to the end-use product in terms of structural integrity and visual appearance. When used in construction, aggregates must meet various specifications, with standards for each type of product regarding particle size and shape, soundness and durability, specific gravity, the amount of deleterious substances present and more.
